ENTP and INTJ Relationship
ENTP and INTJ are two of the 4 “Rational” types categorized as such by MBTI theorist and author, David Keirsey. In relationships, Rationals are described as loyal mates who are also uncomplaining, honest and non-possessive. Although, they can make for wonderful partners, establishing a close relationship with them can take more time and effort than with other personality types because of the complexities in their character.
A Rational-Rational pairing such as the INTJ and ENTP relationship is one of the more recommended type pairings. Keirsey asserts that Rationals get along best with other Rationals and also Idealists due to their shared intuition preference. A mutual perceiving preference is what Keirsey believed contributed to better understanding and communication which is vital to a healthy relationship.
INTJ and ENTP are actually shadows of each other. The shadow functions of INTJ are the functions that constitute ENTP and vice versa.

But how compatible are ENTP and INTJ really? ENTP and INTJ chemistry has its strengths and drawbacks. Here are 6 aspects that illustrate the dynamic of the INTJ and ENTP romantic relationship and also friendship.
1. ENTP and INTJ are “Mindmates”.
ENTP and INTJ couples are bound to enjoy getting into lively discussions where they can duke it out intellectually. Debate and arguments are a way of life for Rational types and for ENTP and INTJ, it may actually bring them closer together. Things can get intense but these types enjoy having a partner who can give them a run for their money and both dish it and take it as well. Furthermore, as fellow intuitives, these two speak the same language and can relate to each other in terms of what they focus on and find important in life. They share a mutual interest in research, technology and concepts and a mutual disinterest in mentally unstimulating activities and mundane reality.
2. ENTP is more outgoing than INTJ.
The extravert/introvert dynamic can create a wedge in the INTJ ENTP relationship. ENTPs in their appetite for novelty and desire to extract inspiration from new experiences, may often feel they must twist INTJ’s arm to tag along for the ride. INTJs tend to live a more secluded existence and prefer to preoccupy themselves with books, films, games and work. They would rather avoid overstimulating excursions and instead spend their time in a more controlled, calm and relaxed setting. Although, ENTP may very well enjoy spending time with INTJ at home, they may feel that INTJ’s lifestyle is too restrictive and predictable. ENTPs like conversing with interesting people as part of their tertiary Fe desire for community. If INTJ doesn’t make themselves available, ENTP may often have to go on out without their INTJ partner.
3. INTJ is more structured than ENTP
Due to their differing attitudes about structure and organization, INTJ and ENTP may have to meet in the middle and make certain concessions so as to avoid irritating and annoying one another. INTJ may often feel that ENTP is unfocused and indecisive. Additionally, ENTPs may show a disregard for routines and responsibilities that may create unnecessary problems for the INTJ. This is one of the ways in which INTJ can be an asset to the ENTP in helping them organize their life and manage their time better. However, INTJs may need to guard against being too pushy, rigid and critical of their ENTP mate and try letting some of the minor things slide. In order to spare their INTJ mate some headaches, ENTP should make an effort to stick to the plans and commitments they make with their partner and try not to sabotage them out of caprice.
4. INTJ and ENTP are good for business.
INTJs are natural taskmasters and can help ENTP out where productivity and the accomplishment of goals is concerned. ENTPs can often be scattered and unfocused in their interests with a bounty of ideas but a dearth of applied action in bringing anything to fruition. They are inclined to explore and toy with ideas without any expressed purpose in mind. INTJ on the other hand, is inclined to require a purpose and reason for almost anything they do. INTJs are adept at taking an idea and working out a plan that serves some ambitious goal or vision. Together, ENTP and INTJ can be a power couple when they harness their respective strengths of ingenuity and systemization. They can make for great partners in business and possess the skill sets that can yield financial success in creative and intellectual enterprise.
5. Neither ENTP or INTJ are bound by convention.
Both ENTP and INTJ seek to chart a course of their own design and are not content to simply follow a conventional path that has been layed out before them. Both types have an openness to possibilities although ENTP is more flexible and adaptable to those possibilities than INTJ. Nevertheless, rituals and traditions are not things to which INTJ and ENTP bind themselves. Furthermore, they are both on a quest to expand, improve and learn new things rather than maintain, follow and uphold what is already known. ENTP and INTJ are something of mavericks who are willing to challenge or question nonsensical societal standards rather than conform with them. Society’s seal of approval is of much less importance to Rationals as compared with Guardians and Artisans.
6. ENTP and INTJ are emotionally low-maintenance.
Although INTJ and ENTP may have difficulty expressing negative emotions and dissatisfaction in a constructive manner, the emotional aspects of this relationship are likely to be mostly uncomplicated. Both ENTP and INTJ do not require constant reaffirmations of their partner’s love for them. These two are likely to be on the same page with regards to how much affection they expect to give and receive. Furthermore, neither the INTJ or ENTP is likely to accuse the other of being cold and uncaring, because of the lack of feeling they express. Whatever feeling they show is likely to be good enough. Both types are highly independent and may sometimes become engrossed in their work or area of interest at the exclusion of their mate. This is likely to be less of a problem and understood without any harsh feelings.
